Dr Sonja Stojanović Gajić Presents GEO-POWER-EU Findings at the Summer School on Serious Games and World Politics in Cres
On 15 July 2026, Dr Sonja Stojanović Gajić (University of Rijeka), researcher in the GEO-POWER-EU project, presented the project’s latest findings at the Summer School on Serious Games and World Politics, co-organised by CAS SEE at Moise Palace on the island of Cres.
The interactive session explored how the European Union, the United States, China, Russia and Türkiye have recalibrated their engagement with the Western Balkans and the Eastern Partnership since 2022. Drawing on GEO-POWER-EU’s Interdependence Database, the Interdependence, Exposure Risk and Strategic Autonomy Indices, and the project’s research on foreign influence, participants examined evolving geopolitical dynamics across the region.
Rather than testing participants’ knowledge, the session challenged their assumptions through an interactive quiz before comparing them with evidence from the GEO-POWER-EU project. The exercise encouraged discussion on how perceptions of geopolitical developments can differ from research-based evidence. Participants also tested StrategEUm, the serious game on European geopolitics developed within GEO-POWER-EU by the University of Belgrade’s Serious Games Lab. Their feedback will help refine the game ahead of its wider release.
The session demonstrated how serious games can complement traditional teaching by helping participants engage with complex geopolitical challenges through interactive learning. It also brought together students and professors from IMSISS (International Master in Security, Intelligence and Strategic Studies – Erasmus Mundus) and Ohio State University, many of whom expressed interest in using the GEO-POWER-EU Interdependence Database and Indices in their own teaching.
