GEO-POWER-EU Findings on Anti-European Disinformation in Ukraine Presented at Maynooth University
On 21 April, GEO-POWER-EU was presented at a seminar titled “Anti-European Disinformation in Ukraine during the Euromaidan Period and the Full-Scale War of Russia against Ukraine”, held at Maynooth University. Organised by Dr. Brian Conway of the Maynooth Sociology Department and co-hosted by the Maynooth Centre for European and Eurasian Studies.

The event brought together discussions on disinformation and its role in shaping perceptions of Ukraine’s European integration amid Russia’s ongoing war. GEO-POWER-EU researcher Dr. Yuliia Tarasiuk (Odesa I.I. Mechnikov National University) presented findings from a GEO-POWER-EU case study on anti-European disinformation narratives in Ukraine. Her research traced how these narratives evolved from the Euromaidan period through to the full-scale Russian invasion and how they have been deployed in public and political discourse. The findings highlight both increased resilience to disinformation in Ukraine since 2014, driven by institutional reforms and media literacy initiatives, and ongoing challenges posed by decentralised digital platforms and anonymous online channels.
