New Report: Public Opinion on International Actors, Security, and EU Integration in the Western Balkans and Eastern Neighbourhood
The EU-funded GEO-POWER-EU project has released a new report presenting the results of a 2025 public opinion survey on international actors, security, migration, and EU integration in the Western Balkans and the Associated Trio Countries. The survey was led by the University of Rijeka, a consortium partner, with fieldwork carried out by Newton and Indago between 2 June and 30 June 2025 across nine countries.
The survey explores how citizens of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia view international actors, regional security, and their countries’ future foreign policy directions.
The report is structured into five thematic chapters: Information, Economy and Migration, EU and NATO, External Actors, and Political Orientation, followed by individual national overviews with general conclusions. It specifically examines the perceptions of five major international actors: the European Union, the United States, Russia, China, and Turkey, measuring trust in each and mapping citizens’ expectations for their countries’ foreign policies. It also investigates attitudes toward EU and NATO membership, migration aspirations, information sources, and domestic political orientations.
