Dr. Valery Perry, Senior Associate at the Democratization Policy Council in Europe and the GEO-POWER-EU Researcher, returned to Connections with Evan Dawson for a discussion on what American action in Venezuela could signal for global politics. The conversation examined the Trump administration’s assertion of U.S. power in the Western Hemisphere and asked whether events in Venezuela offer an early example of how the new U.S. National Security Strategy is being operationalized.

Dr. Perry reflected on the implications of a world divided into spheres of influence, arguing that Europe must be prepared to build its own alliances independent of the United States.
