New Analysis by the Democratization Policy Council: “Sharpie Geopolitics in a Time of Complexity”

GEO-POWER-EU partner Democratization Policy Council (DPC) has published a new article, “Sharpie Geopolitics in a Time of Complexity,” examining how the second Trump administration’s transactional “deal-making” and rhetoric of “land swaps” reduce complex geopolitical conflicts to a real-estate mentality.

As Trump seeks to play the role of an action-figure statesman, his approach recalls an earlier era when outside great powers redrew maps with little regard for human cost. From Armenia–Azerbaijan to Ukraine and other contested regions, this mindset risks reviving displacement, irredentism, and zero-sum territorial politics while ignoring the cultural, demographic, and human complexities on the ground.
