Organization Summary

The University of the Peloponnese (UoP) is a  modern, multidisciplinary, regional, and multi-campus university in Greece. It was founded in 2000 and it is developed at the level of integrated Schools in the capitals of the Prefectures of the Peloponnese: Tripoli, Kalamata, Sparta, Nafplio and Corinth as well as in Patras. It comprises 9 Schools and 22 Departments. It offers studies in all cycles of learning: undergraduate, postgraduate, and Doctoral as well as LifeLong Learning.  The Department of Political Science and International Relations of the University of the Peloponnese (PEDIS) was established in 2007. It is part of the School of Social and Political Sciences and is based in the cities of Corinth. It offers cutting-edge undergraduate and postgraduate study programs in line with the best international standards. It constitutes a dynamic academic community with remarkable openness and great academic and professional potential for its graduates. The Department combines academic research with projects offering tangible results to the wider society.

Nikolaos Tzifakis

Nikolaos Tzifakis is the Project Coordinator of GEO-POWER-EU Horizon Project. He holds a Jean Monnet Chair in “EU Foreign Policy and the Western Balkans” and is a Professor of International Relations at the Department of Political Science and International Relations of the University of the Peloponnese. He is also a Senior Academic Expert at the College of Europe (in Bruges), and a Visiting Professor at the European Regional Master (ERMA) in “Democracy and Human Rights in South-East Europe” (University of Bologna/University of Sarajevo). His research interests include EU external relations, contemporary Western Balkan politics, and International Relations theory.

Asteris Huliaras

Asteris Huliaras is Jean Monnet Professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the University of the Peloponnese (Greece). His research agenda is interdisciplinary, combining politics and economics. He is the author of many books and articles on international development and civil society. He has participated in several projects aiming at promoting civic engagement and making a difference in the lives of young people.

Athanasios Katsis

Athanasios Katsis, is a Professor at the Department of Social and Educational Policy of the University of Peloponnese. His field of study is statistical applications in educational research. He holds a doctorate and a master’s degree in Statistics from George Washington University, USA, while he completed his undergraduate studies at the Department of Mathematics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has served as Chair of the Department and Dean of the School of Social and Political Sciences, while since December 2017 he has been Rector of the University of Peloponnese, a position to which he was re-elected in December 2022.

Panagiota Manoli

Panagiota Manoli is Associate Professor in Political Economy of International Relations at the Department of Political Science and International Relations, University of the Peloponnese and a Research Fellow at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP). Her research interests include regionalism, EUs’ external relations, security and development and Black Sea studies.

Sotiris Petropoulos

Sotiris Petropoulos is Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science and International Relations of the University of the Peloponnese. He received his PhD from the Department of Geography, Harokopio University of Athens (Greece) while he holds an MA in International Political Economy from Warwick University (UK). His research agenda focuses on Regionalism and Emerging Powers.

Elena Markoutsi

Elena Markoutsi is the Head of the Secretariat of the Department of Political Science and International Relations of the University of Peloponnese from 2008 until today. She graduates  the Department of Economics of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and holds a Master’s degree in Health Services Management from the National School of Public Health. She has extensive administrative and managerial experience in both administrative and financial matters as well as participation in several research projects
